Chapter 3 Documents

Chapter 3 Documents: Greek Historians on Persia and Egypt: The Persians had many different types of rituals they would commonly do. They did not believe in God, but made many sacrifices to Zeus. They wear Egyptian armor and wear clothing like Medes. Another interesting custom they do is when they meet someone of equal status on the street they kiss them on the lips, but when the status is not equal they kiss on the cheek. The Egyptians had many great qualities. They had beautiful rivers and buildings and the women had many fulfilling jobs. The women were involved in market and trade while the men were at home weaving on the loom. Egyptians always had animals with them and they wrote from right to left instead of left to right.

Intro to Part Two and Ch. 3 (State and Empire)

Intro to Part Two: Intro to Part two explains how an empire begins. Each empire has their own cultures depending on the location. There is the Eurasian Empire, the Roman Empire, the China dynasties, and Greece. That have all been part of major empires that soon collapsed. All empires ended up collapsing, but its what they left behind that is remembered. The memories weren't always so good from the empires past. Some of it was very bloody and there was lots of violence.  Chapter 3 The Persian and Greek Empires  Chapter 3 compared many different large empires. The first he compared the Persians to the Greeks. Chapter 2 Documents

The statue of the "Dancing girl" showed a women who could be seen as confident in herself and seen as very beautiful. She has on all kinds of jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets. Her hair is put up nicely and they way she is posing may suggest that she was a type of Dancer. The girl is seen not wearing much clothes, but has her head up high so she may have been self-assured. The statue is very nice and makes the women come off in a positive way. The dancers in the Indus Valley were probably seen very highly. If the view of women were to be seen as bad, the women wouldn't have been carved  with the nice features she has. The sexuality during this time were normally poor for women, but this sculpture made the dancing girl look very strong.

Chapter 2 First Civilizations

One of the first civilizations was Mesopotamia. The Mesopotamia River was un-predictable and many people in the city had a scare of flooding. Another major city that emerged was Notre Chico where twenty-five urban centers emerged and it was one of the largest. Many archeologists uncovered a 5,000 year old quipu. The Indus Valley was far beyond urban planning. They knew had to make ovens made of mud-bricks and developed their own toilets and baths. They created good hygiene for their people. Another interesting thing about the Indus Valley was that they had no hierarchy. During the Ancient period social hierarchy was developing and many people wanted to gain power and high status. Nevertheless, the Indus Valley was still thriving without it. There was also Hierarchies between Men and Women. Women were just seen from their relationship with their man. Men could also marry more than women. Women accepted all their roles and didn't believe gender equality could exist. Something we gain...

Reflection: Out of Africa New environments were being obtained in all parts of the world. Human migration were being led into the different areas of Europe. Many things were uncovered to have been built in these ages such as, paintings, stone tools, baskets, and pottery. When Migration came to Australia from Indonesia, Australia developed around 250 languages. From migration into the Americas many Clovis men hunted for larger animals such as Bison and Mammoths. The Clovis culture disappeared around the same time many large animals disappeared. The Ways we Were: Paleolithic men and women were a lot more equal during this time, considering that the women provided the main bulk of the meals. Nevertheless, the men were still the hunters and the women were gatherers. Many of the art sculptures that were built helped the people understand the Paleolithic culture better.
